The lure of the great outdoors is hard to resist with this rustic cottage style by Canadian architects Cathy Garrido and Andy Thomson, of Toronto-based Altius Architecture. This lake house in picturesque Perth, Ontario isn’t exactly what we would call “roughing it” in the great outdoors. The 2,000-sq.-ft. cottage design features rustic yet refined details like exposed wood-beam ceilings, a wood-burning stove and expansive sliding-glass doors that maximize the natural views and open onto a wrap-around deck. Living areas are situated downstairs, to promote socialization between family and friends, while the private living spaces are upstairs. Throughout, “cottage-chic” is definitely the flavor of this forest home, which boasts a casual, timeless feel that takes you a million miles away from the hustle and bustle.
